Beastmaster
I'm hoping one of the Ranger gurus here can give me some help with a build, as guildies and allies havent been of much help.
I'm trying to design a Beastmaster build to use in PvE and possibly AB. I also want it to be a build heroes can use reasonably well, although if they arent as good at it that's fine. I'd like to be able to heal myself and my pet, give it IAS/damage reduction, do a fair amount of damage, allow it to disrupt a foe's action and cause at least one condition (Bleeding or Poison is preferred). I also want Rebirth or some other hard res in there for resurrecting teammates.
Guildies and allies seem to differ on exactly what skills are necessary for a Beastmaster build, so let me show you the two builds we've come up with (one sucks but has a good base, the other is good but missing elements I want/need).
I came up with Build #1:
Troll Unguent, Disrupting Lunge, Feral Lunge, Ferocious Strike (E), Poisonous Bite, Charm Animal, Comfort Animal, Rebirth
The idea was to disrupt and cause conditions while returning energy. But skill recharge was too high, so we removed Troll Unguent and replaced with Predatory Bond, and replaced Ferocious Strike with Enraged Lunge. This works better, but still came up short due to recharge times. So what we did next was use a build an ally had:
Build #2:
Enraged Lunge (E), Predator's Pounce, Call of Haste, Call of Protection, Predatory Bond, Symbiotic Bond, Comfort Animal, Charm Animal
My first issue with this build is no res for teammates. I always take one with me (and cannot be convinced otherwise, so please do not even try), so we tried to decide what to take out but couldnt find anything. Then they started disagreeing on whether I'd need Call of Haste or Call of Protection suggesting I take either out (Depending on who you asked) for Feral Aggression.
As a result, I feel like I'm getting nowhere with them, and not even close to what I want to do, so I decided to come ask the gurus for a little build help. I can understand if I can't fit in everything I want to do in a build, but Id like to come as close as possible.

Sounds like you have pretty much already made your build.
[skill]Call of Haste[/skill]
[skill]Call of Protection[/skill]

[skill]Rebirth[/skill]
Plus [skill]Comfort Animal[/skill] and [skill]Charm Animal[/skill]
Not much left for us to advise you on.
Edit....but really, the only good thing about a Beast Master is [skill]Infuriating Heat[/skill] to make the good characters better.

I use a build very similar to that which usually consists of the following:
[skill]Enranged Lunge[/skill] [skill]Feral Lunge[/skill] [skill]Feral Aggression[/skill] [skill]Call of Protection[/skill] [skill]Predatory Bond[/skill] [skill]Symbiotic Bond[/skill] [skill]Comfort Animal[/skill] [skill]Charm Animal[/skill]
However, I never actually use Comfort animal for anything, as call of protection and symbiotic bond pretty much take care of damage. So I usually switch that with Rebirth, if I'm with a team that's liable to be stupid and die.
Just keep Symbiotic Bond and Call of Protection constantly activated, use Predatory Bond and Feral Aggression as your pet goes into combat. Pet attack work like Rit weapon skills so I active Enranged Lunge well before it goes into combat. This normally allows you to recharge the skill and basically do double damage. Feral Lunge is used whenever possible to increase damage output.
Fun build!

a beastmaster is mainly designed for damage, therefore you shouldn't be replacing your damage with the pet, but adding the pet to yours.
The best damage you can get is on a spear (spear chucker) on hammer(thumper).
even with just meeting the req on the weapon and auto-attacking you'll do alot more damage.
As for Spear:
[skill]Heal as One[/skill][skill]Charm Animal[/skill][skill]Poisonous Bite[/skill][skill]Spear of Lightning[/skill][skill]Disrupting Throw[/skill]+ some optional skills + res
hammer:
[skill]Rampage as One[/skill][skill]Hammer Bash[/skill][skill]Crushing Blow[/skill][skill]Bestial Mauling[/skill][skill]Distracting Blow[/skill][skill]Charm Animal[/skill][skill]Comfort Animal[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
I would stick to spear, since Never Rampage Alone can replace RaO 100% while giving you a good healing elite

If you want to interrupt, bring a bow for it, disrupting lunge is a poor choice, with distracting shot, you need not to speck anything in marks for it to to it's job.
For the second bar, with Enraged Lunge and Predator's Pounce already in, Feral is overkill on the attack-skills, while Call of Protection and Call of Haste are the more useful skills to fuel enraged. If you need a rez, ditch Symbiotic Bond and/or Predatory Bond.

Feral Aggression is better than any skill except Enraged Lunge for DPS and efficiency. If you want damage it belongs in the build, and it fuels Enraged well.
Another good skill to fuel Enraged is Tiger's Fury, which disables the Charm and Comfort, thus counting them as recharging skills. Since Enraged Lunge counts itself, you can get max damage with just Tiger's Fury, Charm Animal, Comfort Animal, and Enraged Lunge.

With the side note that you only get that effect once every 10 seconds, while EL normally recharges in 5.

I'm going to give this one a try - it seems pretty close to what I'm looking for. Any thoughts on Feral Lunge vs Predator's Pounce, as far as damage? Does Feral do more than Predator's?

Thank you all for your input. It's given me quite a bit to think about, and I will test these alterations.

Predator's Pounce has a 5 second recharge, it can do more - and unconditional - damage.

This is basically what I used except you can take out [skill]Feral Lunge[/skill] [skill]Feral Aggression[/skill] and put in [skill]Troll Unguent[/skill] and your hard rez [skill]Rebirth[skill]. I think you need Troll Uguent incase your pet gets mobbed through predatory bond.
You could even take out one of [skill]Call of Protection[/skill] [skill]Predatory Bond[/skill] [skill]Symbiotic Bond[/skill] and put in a spear skill [skill]Barbed Spear[/skill] to cause bleeding. Although these three beast mastery skills work very well together.
I have tried the build with [skill]Troll Unguent[/skill] and the varying the other skill and works well. I often use [skill]you move like a dwarf[/skill] for ranged interrupt if you have Eye of the North. Get about 100dmg per enraged luge plus about 20dmg from each attack inbetween. That equals about 24 DPS not great, but the pet can really tank well and also monsters don't seem to target pets much. I tried this on hero and the only problem is the here does not reacast when things recharge, but when they expire. This is a problem becuase many of the skills last longer than their recharge time at high beast mastery, but you need them to be recharging to get max gain from enraged lunge. The hero does spam enraged lunge as desired though.
